Twitter and Facebook almost makes blogging an extinct life form. It's so much easier to "retweet" than to make new content. Plus with the infusion of journalists who are out of work now blogging, regular folks feel left out.

I would love to contact Rick Rojas or Mark Zaid (the attorney ticketed for flashing his lights).

I recently had the same thing happen to me in FL. I RECORDED the entire event, and traffic stop and posted it on Youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ed7xiZeWrYk)

The cop lied and wrote me for a statute that prohibits flashing lights (adj not verb - LOVE THAT!).

Well, if this story's figure of 15,000 per day is correct, that would put the Daily Texan around the Lufkin Daily News/Denton Record Chronicle level. - http://bit.ly/3aW1oT

One should bear in mind, though, that the Daily Texan is distributed for free, while the Lufkin and Denton papers and the other dailies on this list derive their numbers from sales and subscriptions. So a direct comparison isn't really right.

The Batt, which is also distributed for free, has a press run of 22,000 in the fall and spring semesters.

If anyone remotely familiar with death of the A&M Journalism Department bothers to read the rest of Mr. Mouhibian's American Spectator article, they will quickly realize that he only talked to Dean Charles Johnson and didn't bother with the facts. Journalism didn't die because of budget cuts. It died from years of inattention to its problems and failure to properly control its enrollment and fund its programs. The desire to put the money in pet programs spelled doom for Journalism. Is there a need to re-establish a quality journalism department at Texas A&M? Definitely! All anyone needs to do is look at articles in papers all across this country to see that accuracy and objectivity have been sacrificed to the Gods of speed and brevity. I may have still needed a good bit of OJT when I finished in the mid-1960s, but I had the basics down pat. These included covering all the information available in an unbiased manner and giving the reader enough information on which to base an informed decision.

Loren Steffy's column Sunday regarding bank privilege fees (“When fees masquerade as privileges,” Page D1) is probably the best he has ever written because it could be so helpful and informative to so many people. Unfortunately, the people who need to know the facts he presented will never see his column; they don't read a newspaper.
